I have read and been pondering
How and Why People Use Camera Phones. I hope to write down my reflections soon. In the meantime, I have also come across what seems to be a similar research project right at SIMS, led by Nancy Van House:
New Photographic Technology and the Social Uses of Images - Van House Dec 204.
Some questions I have so far:
-
I didn't see a lot in the study about the interaction of camera phones and new online services (some mention). Will they be studying those services?
-
What's the difference between camera phone use and that of very small digital cameras (which might not have the connectivity but have higher quality images)?
-
Will the authors be looking at what people do with all the images? For example, do camera phone users scrapbook the images?
-
Are people reflecting much on what is appropriate to take pictures of and what is not appropriate?
-
Are the authors intereacting much with the work of Nancy Van House at Berkeley? (http://www.sims.berkeley.edu/%7Evanhouse/photo_project_overview.htm)
Why I care
As I track this research, I have also been writing more personally about my own camera phone use: CameraPhone.
