Is there such a thing as ads that touch on the visceral appeal of cycling? Actually I think there is, although not in mass media. You would simply need to go to some bicycle manufacturer's web site. -- ChristianStimming 2003-08-13 10:59:29
The Berkeleyan has a nice article about how
"For many Berkeley faculty, time spent cycling is time well spent." As one of the few downsides mentioned, it's interesting to recall the late
Clark Kerr's famous description of "parking for the faculty" as one of
the three main challenges facing a university administrator -- and here we read about how it's a problem even for faculty who don't drive.
Hase Pino Tandem
Contribution by ChristianStimming: Recently I checked out some interesting tandem bikes1 because my fiancée and I were planning a bike trip. The personal cycling speed of each of us is (guess what) somehow different, and it occurred to us that one way to really eliminate any overextension or underchallenging for either one would be to ride a tandem bike. So we looked for a nice one to rent for a weekend. One particular interesting bike we came about was the Hase Pino manufactured by the small German bike manufacturer
Hase. Their Pino bike features a recumbent bike 2 as the front half of the tandem, and a normal upright bike as the back half. As usual, a
picture is worth more than a 1000 words:
We eventually rented such a Pino bike and rode 300km in 3 days, and this experience was incredibly cool!!! Check out more
manufacturer pictures3. This bike is just sooo cool to use. Both can talk to each other easily (usually more difficult with two separate bikes). Both tackle each obstacle together (really nice for couples). The bike allows switching back and forth between both positions (really nice if any body parts start aching). And all the time this bike doesn't even start to give any kind of difficulties in navigating. It is almost just as agile as any single bike, even in off-road circumstances, but of course a lot faaaaaster. Gee this was cool.
The only unfortunate part is the price of approx. 3500 Euro. -- ChristianStimming 2003-08-13 10:59:29
