How to get XML out of Melvyl
One can get an XML representation of Melvyl in a two step process. I've not worked out all the details yet, but here is an example of looking up Robin Lakoff's Language War by ISBN (taken from the
Berkeley Summer Reading List.
First, a straight web-based search of melvyl:
(See
Linking to the Melvyl® Catalog 3/3/04 for more information.)
To get XML out is a two step process. First, do the query
from which one extracts the set_number. In an earlier search that I already did, I got set_number 242758. (This set number is not guaranteed to persist beyond a certain length of time....) One can then retrieve the results with the set_no:
I've cached the results to MelvylSystem/SampleOutputXml1
The result set seems to be in OAI MARC, which according to
An XML Schema to represent MARC records, should be superceded by MarcXml. (I'll have to check to see whether we can something other than OAI MARC out of Melvyl....)
