Welcome to OCLC ResearchWorks, OCLC's research laboratory. ResearchWorks demonstrates a few of our ideas for applying new technologies to organize information. In some cases, they serve as examples of things you can develop or incorporate into your own systems.
OCLC Services and the software competition
OCLC Software competition: It's very tempting to figure out how to enter the competition -- though I doubt that I will time to apply myself to thinking that hard about OCLC's service offerings. At the very least, the contest is a chance to think about how to make use of the OCLC services. A quick glance at OclcOrg/ResearchWorks, I can seem making use of a number of services in my ScholarsBox work:
-
About xISBN: "xISBN supplies ISBNs associated with individual intellectual works represented in the OCLC WorldCat database. Give it an ISBN, and it returns a list of associated ISBNs." (In collecting books, I will want to understand the relationships among different versions of the same work. (think FRBR)

About the metadata crosswalk repository: "a prototype for a repository of metadata crosswalks, called SchemaTrans." I've been interested in the OclcMetadataSwitch for a while....and plan to come back to take a look. Right now, I'm working on a crosswalk MARC XML to OpenURLs. I will want soon to crosswalk a wider range bibliographic metadata formats.
